I'm going to start off with the fact that in the end, I was happy and satisfied with the work that Stealth Hitches and Richard did for me.
I don't know if it's VW to blame, or the website, some logistical error, or something else... Nonetheless, when I ordered this hitch for my 2017 GTI, I figured it would be a smooth experience... But unfortunately since I got the wrong hitch beam the first time around, it was anything but.
I ordered it right here as you see, a 2017 VW Golf GTI MK7 5G (not the Autobahn since I have the Sport). But for some reason, the rack I received was dimensionally wrong. The hitch beam was about an inch or 2 too high, and about an inch too proud towards the rear of the car. This lead to the receiver block being too high and interfering with the fascia. Strangely too, the included manual in the box was for the GTI, Rabbit, Autobahn MK7, 2017-2019 when the manual online was different, only for the GTI and was 2013 and up... This whole problem might be a weird mid-year change on VW's part, but we're unsure.
Richard and I shared a few calls and pictures back and forth trying to figure it out. Eventually, he found the specs for another GTI hitch they fab up, and he read them off to me. The changes sounded accurate to me, so I had him send it over. This one was perfect. Fit like a dream, and everything followed the manual to a T. Only hiccup, since I had already installed the improper hitch, I was at least expecting new hardware since nylon lock nuts, washers, spring washers, etc are normally one time use.
Nonetheless, the team made it right in the end for me and I am satisfied with what I have now. Took about 3 weeks from order to delivery for the first one, and 2-1/2 weeks to sort out the problem and receive the second one. But now I can haul my bikes and such around!
