I am fortunate to have a good friend who has a well-equipped auto mechanic shop in his home garage, including a lift. The printed instructions included with the hitch (for a Volvo V60) are excellent as is the online video. However, without experience, the proper tools and especially the lift, this job, while probably doable for the layperson, would be pretty challenging.
For me, while I mostly watched my very competent friend and helped a little, the job went very smoothly. (It’s not the first hitch he’s helped me install - or installed for me), taking approximately a couple hours. It’s not rocket science and there are no moving parts after all, though some parts have to be moved.
I’ve yet to use the hitch, but I think getting the actual receiver in and out will not be fun given its location. However, this hitch is truly stealthy when not in use and having the receiver removable makes it so.
